In an effort to facilitate the access to the bottom of the canyons, the Municipal Government of Batopilas in conjunction with the State and Federal Governments have committed themselves to pave the road to the town of Batopilas. The idea and the purpose of the endeavor allows for the development of tourism in the Copper Canyon region, which in turn will create a network of highways and roads to access and discover the mysterious depths of the barrancas.
Batopilas will be leading the way in the tourist industry when it becomes the first destination in the Barrancas del Cobre to have a paved road all the way to the bottom of its canyon, as well as a paved airstrip for passenger planes, such as the Gran Caravan, to transport people in and out of one of the deepest canyons in the world.
